About the Role
In this position, you will be a part of the R&D team, a high-performing business unit within Farmers Insurance Group focusing on personal and commercial auto insurance. The main focus of the position is the creation and maintenance of the Rate Order of Calculation for Commercial Auto Insurance for the Bristol West division. Additionally, you will provide support for the Bristol West Personal Auto rating models. Ad hoc modeling tasks, related but not limited to conversion, retention, new rating variable testing are also included in this job's description.
What You'll Accomplish
• Develop and implement predictive analytics through countrywide and state models for personal and commercial auto insurance.
• Specific duties include, but they are not limited to, the: creation, calibration and enhancement of the Rate Order of Calculation; once created the analyst will evaluate the performance of the models
• Develop new modeling techniques by fundamental and applied research
• Create and modify existing programming code that applies to the solution of business problems.
• Extract, clean and validate data sets needed for the solution of business problems.
• Communicate the modeling results to business stakeholders.
• Works with IT to implement modeling results in production.
• Assist Product Management in filing the modeling results.
• Automate tasks using VBA.
• Assists in the training and development of more junior analysts.
• Performs special modeling projects as assigned.
• Performs other functions as assigned.
Education Requirements
Master's Degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related field.
Experience Requirements
• Two years of modeling experience is required.
• Insurance experience preferred.
Special Skills
• In depth, theoretical and practical knowledge of statistical techniques: Linear Regression, Generalized Linear Models, Clustering, Decision Trees, Neural Networks, etc..
• Experience using SAS, R, Python or other modeling program.
• Experience using SQL in any data extraction environment.
• Experience with reporting tools: Excel, Power BI.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to secure 'buy-in' and convince non-technical leaders and peers regarding the best business problem solving approach.
• Goal oriented team player with a positive attitude.
• Excellent time management skills.
• Strong relationship building.
Physical Environment
This position operates in an open office working environment which will include normal and customary distractions, noise, and interruptions.
